Shelby Pizzarro, Artistic Director

Dance education began for me at the June Taylor School of Dance, New York, New York.

Oriental Dance opened a new world for me and was an extension of my life long interest, residence, and travel in the Middle East.

I trained at the Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance, London, England and with Sara Farouk Ahmed, now of Cairo, Egypt, as well as with other teachers internationally. I draw inspiration from the beauty and grace of Samia Gamal, Suhair Zaki, and Lucy.

Although now based in the United States, the Middle East and the United Kingdom are countries in which I have also resided. I have had the pleasure of dancing in the United States, England, and as principle dancer at a private Hafla in Cairo, Egypt.

My work as a commercial illustrator has been influenced by my love of the Middle East and Dance. My clients include: Syracuse Cultural Workers,  Antioch Publishing, National Asthma Campaign (UK), Scholastic Inc., BBC Television and Radio (UK), Channel 4 / Oracle (UK), and the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society (UK).

Oasis Dance Camp 2000 chose my illustration as the winner of their Millennium Design Contest.

Syracuse Cultural Worker included my art in their annual "Peace Calendar" and "Women Artists" datebook.
